“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

That great quote is often attributed to President George Washington. While we do not know for certain that President Washington actually shared that wise counsel at the birth of our nation, those words still serve as a clear reminder about the risk of relying too heavily on government to act in the interest of the People.

First as state Representative and now Senator, I have worked with constituents and colleagues in the General Assembly to harness that “dangerous servant and fearful master.”

The Declaration of Independence reminds us that governments derive their “just powers from the consent of the governed.” That’s you. I work for you. Specifically, I work for the People who live here in Colorado Seante District 30.

As a friend, Laura Carno of Colorado Springs, likes to remind us, “politicians are not kings.” To that point, you do not work for me, I work for you.

It is an honor and privilege to represent the good people of Colorado Senate District 30.

God bless you and your family.

Respectfully yours,
